Side view. The passenger seat actually sits a bit further back than the driver's. Smart says that this is for safety, so the driver can easily see out that side. I think that the real reason is because it gives each person shoulder room - they overlap instead of butting against each other - this IS a narrow car. But I guess that "safety" markets better ;-).

  • "Cargo" compartment - privacy screen retracted. Engine access is under the carpet - lift up the carpet, and there's a hatch for oil checking and adding. While I check it regularly, I've never had to add any between changes. There is additional storage in the bottom hatch door (note the latch).

  • Driver's door open - one of the advantages of the Smart is that it sits rather high and the door is almost the entire side of the car. VERY easy to get in and out of - no ducking and squirming.
